Brooks Frunners : Glycerin 10 Wins Award

Just received news from Brooks Malaysia that the Glycerin 10 has won an award from Running Network USA as the Best Neutral Shoe for Fall 2012. The other contestant of this category were from Brooks (Dyad7 and Ghost5), Nike (Air Pegasus 29+) and Mizuno (Wave Enigma2). While the other brand would ring a bell more than what Brooks has, the Brooks brand actually has a huge following outside of Malaysia.
Detailed write up of the Neutral category shoes.
And here is the detailed write up of the review by the folks from Running Network.
Wifey is on Glycerin9 and she can vouch for the shoe. Without a proper real life testing like how i did for PureGrit, I would not be able to give a through comment/review. However, I am at the junction of deciding if I want a Ghost5 to replace my old Ghost3 or to upgrade to Glycerin10.
I have Five more days to think. The RM150 trade-in will end September 30! If you have not gotten a pair of shoes to replace your old one, perhaps, this could be an option!

Remember to Run Happy!

    1. Johnson - the brooks posting is part of a competition for bloggers. While i try not to associate myself too much with branding, my own personal opinion on the shoes are neutral.

I had used new balance but find it not suitable for myself. I was a huge Nike user until they start making fashion shoes and not functional shoes. I also uses Adidas, which i find that they have a balance of fashion and function.

I have also tried Mizuno Wave series and also Saucony. But they are not to my liking.

Brooks was an accidental encounter. I first got it because i needed a true blue trail shoes and i started off with Cascadia5. The pricing and the features/functions PLUS the fashion seems to goes very well with me. I then graduate to a pair of Ghost3, which i got at a clearance sales. By then, Wifey already on Ghost 4 and Glycerin9, apart from running in Cascadia5 for all her trails and Kinabalu climbathon (twice).

You can say i am a Brooks convert. And the competition to win some possible cash, will just allow me to change my old shoes that is already old mileage. Time to retire my Ghost3 and Cascadia5. :)

    2. Thanks to your posting, I am spending the weekend "Brooks shopping" - torn between the Ghost 5 and Glycerin 10. The latter is quite heavy, plenty of cushioning. Still undecided, I have until tomorrow until the Salomon race to decide! It's 309 for the Ghost

    3. I like them light. For me, it's Ghost. :)

  2. Neutral shoe? That's kind of a weird way of saying regular 'ol walking shoe.

Or running shoe. Ah, you know what I mean.

  3. Let me share my opinion on whether go for Ghost5 or Glyecerin 10. I have tried both and I ended up with Ghost.

Cushoning level, both are not significant different and I think Glycerin is more beneficial for very heavy runners, it is a bit softer. My weight is 68kg and cushoning level for Ghost is more than enough. Glycerin has softer forefoot cushoning.

I like the upper fitting of Glycerin more, especially the elastic shoe lace which does not put hot spot on my feet if the lace is tightened too much. For Ghost, you have to watch out for the width (Brooks Malaysia offers D or 2E.).I often re-lace due to hot spot. (I made mistake on choosing 2E although I have D foot)

I compare both by lifting the shoe with my index finger and Glycerin is heavier.Glycerin also looks nicer than Ghost.

I support Brooks because they are very generous in giving discount.Unlike other big brand which rarely give price promotion. RM150 discount for trading old shoe is huge percentage.

    Good luck on your finding.

    1. Wai Leng - i believe my wife can vouch for what you said about Ghost and Glycerin. She, like you, owns both. She did tell me that Glycerin is softer and offer a nicer ride compared to Ghost. But she likes Ghost for the lightness.

She has also learnt that the MEN Ghost is wider...so, she get the men's edition ..and not sure if you noticed, the men's shoe tend to be more "colorful". :)

Many thanks for the feedback, it's super valuable. I also believe that the current RM150 promotion (ending Sept 30) is very value for money. No where you can get a functional proper running shoes for that cheap. Forget the big brand, they do not need our business ;-)

  4. Yeah! I have a Glycerin series Brooks. Always a fan of it. Good sturdy shoes with enough padding and certainly great for LSD.
