Home - Hartamas - Home

Because i'm fat, i decided to do a first for myself.

Ran from home to Hartamas and back home again.

Total distance covered according to google earth was 14.41km. but i guess the total distance covered was close to 15km as i estimated the path inside the Pencala Tunnel. Satelite image can only see what's on the ground, not what's under the ground ie the tunnel.

Official road marker on the road says that the distance from the entrance of the tunne l(against traffic) going from home to the end of the other entrance (towards thetoll plaza) is circa 800meters and 900meters the other way around. Perhaps because of the curvature of the road.

Time : 1:36:40
Distance : +/- 15km
Max HR: 159bpm (looked pretty leisure to me)
Average: 154bpm (yeap, not even pushing)
Kcal burned : 2098kcal (about 1.5 plate of rice)

I guess it was my initial worry that i might not be able to finish the run that prompted me to pace myself slower than usual. It took me 46minutes compared to my usual 41minutes (against traffic) to reach the Gym area.

It's a start, now that i know just what i'm getting from the journey to and fro, i guess the next logical thing to do is to push myself to better the timing.

Today's menu will be weight exercises, time to work those flabby muscle. Leg deserves a break.

Vegetarian Restaurant Review : Ring Zhi, Kepong

When it comes to vegetarian restaurant, i know everyone would think that they serves nothing but dough. Or vegetarian food is not filling. Or why eat the fake thing when the real thing is even yummier.

My dad's family is permanent vegetarian since the 1970's. Partly due to religion as they practices the teaching of Tao.

Today, in conjunction of my sis' birthday, and yesterday, to celebrate with her, all of us went to Ring Zhi VEgetarian Restaurant in Metro Prima Kepong. Yes, that is where the Jusco Kepong and Carrefour Kepong is.

Sorry, can't read chinese

This is my family's usual place if we decide to eat out. This restaurant is actually not new when it comes to experiences and food served. Believe this or not, half the staffs were from Chameleon Vegetarian Restaurant from Jalan Syed Putra (ie near The Mall) and the other half is from the vegetarian restaurant at SS2, near the Rothman roundabout (forgot the name la...sorry It's called Nanking Court!!!).

Best thing about this place is the food quality and the price.

Dad ordered the food as we usually let him do so since he is full time vegetarian. Because it's my sis' birthday, he ordered the 4 Season dish.

Ham, Fu Chok, fishballs, shredded "fake" eggs

The food is fresh and it's yummy. We gobbled up everything, as usual.

As we weren't asking for the set meal, all the food came at once. There were vegetarian curry filled with all the things that there should be in a vegetarian curry.

Spicy, sweet and served in Claypot

We also had the Yam Basket...

sister divided the yam before i could snap the pic

It was filled with vegetables and cashew nuts...the yam was fried just nice and wasn't oily.

Dad ordered a fried fish dish as well. It's fake fish, for your info. Some vegetarian i spoke too regard fish as vegetarian dish.

Fried fish in sesame and sweet soy sauce

The fish was fried just nice with the skin crunchy and the inner part juicy. It's made of soya sheets (fu chok) with seaweed as it's skin.

And how could any dinner be complete without a green vegetable?

Steamed Kai Lan

The 5 dishes above were more than enough for the 6 of us plus my small cousin. They have the option for brown rice if you want to be healthier with our choices. Since there were so much dishes, me and wifey ended up sharing one serving of rice and we ate the dishes more. Attempt to reduce starchy food.

Yeap, it's futile, vegetarian food are mostly made from high protien flour/soya product, so, essentially, the carb content are pretty high too. So, there goes my whole attempt to lose weight. It's really futile at that point of time, with the food stuck into your face like the pics above.

Because it was my sis' birthday, we had cake for dessert. The cake was bought from a bakery near my mum's house in Gombak called Pistachio Bakery. It was light sponge cake covered with fruits. LIght and yummy!

Aiyer...so many candles!!!

The bill came up to RM76 for the food (5 dishes), tea per person is standard RM1/pax and the rice came up to RM4 as dad opted for the brown rice which cost RM1/bowl. Total bill was RM86 and we all went back happy. Infact, we've never spend more than RM100 for any meals in Ring Zhi, each time we have dinner there, there will be a minimum of 6 person and at least 5 dishes!

With good food and good company, anyone would be happy!

Yeah, i sorta let myself go and ate more than i should, afterall, i'm already fat, can't fight them, so, might as well, join them!

The Map to Ring Zhi

Next month will be my parent's birthday, mum indicated she wants to eat Seafood. But since my dad is vegetarian, he will only have to be happy to SEE Food. Hahahahah!

Happy Birthday Ee-Svun!

Today is my little sis birthday.

OK, she is not so little already, she is 19.

Happy Happy Birthday!

Some of you might had seen her in the 3R show where they featured some girls in the last season finale's Kem Konfiden Koteks.

So, as celebration, we went to the Vegetarian Restaurant in Kepong for dinner.

To Svun, Happy Birthday, May you do well in your STPM this year!

Make Wishes and cut your cake!

Back

I'm always below speed limit on the bike......

Thanks to all of us for ur words. Been a bit drama queen la last week. Now i'm not unhappy anymore, just FAT.

I guess it's better to be FAT than to be unhappy.

Wifey read the blog entry and LL2 also read it. For a moment i totally forgot that people read my blog. So, if i were to be unnessasarily emotional, sorry about that. Don't think i would relapse into these episode anytime in the near future.

OK, just as things started to get clearer for myself, i decided to go for a 30km cycle, which i secretly wanted to do a 60km (ie 2 round of the 30km route) on Saturday.

Was really pushing myself along the way and was averaging about 34km/h from Damansara Perdana into the tunnel and towards National Science Centre.

As i passed Security Commision and went under the underpass at INTAN/RSC, i felt some strange feeling on the front tyre and as i look down, it went POP!

Yeap...puncture number 2 since i started to ride this Colnago.

I just covered 10km of ride and this had to happen on a bright sunny Saturday afternoon.

Only 10.41km covered...

Ironically, i told wifey that i need to change my front tyre soon. The sides are cracking up and stones gets embedded really easily, taking out chunks of rubber in the process.

I stopped by the road side, right after the underpass and went behind the barrier for safety as i need to change the tube.

beyond repair...

I had with me 2 extra tubes, could never be too careful, no?

I had no problem changing tubes anytime as with other minor repair work, all thanks to years when i was moonlighting as a bike mechanic when i was doing my form 6 and college life.

One problem though, the problematic tire which should had been changed after the very last ride, took a beating, the nylon thread which acts as the tyre bead (which will hold the tire to the rim) was exposed.

I tried to repair it as well as i could to cycle back for at least 10km. I pumped in air up to maybe 50psi (my handpump could only handle that much pressure - must get a higher rating one for IronMan).

I decided to walk to the flyover at INTAN, then cut across the road and head down RSC and back home from there, no point trying to make any good average anymore with the bike condition as such...

200meters down the road, a loud POP came about again and i wasn't even cycling. I was pushing the bike! This time, i know for sure the cause of the tube blow up was because the rim, biting into the tube as the tire isn't sitting in it's place.

At that moment i know that even if i have 10 more tubes, i simply can't cycle anymore, and while running 8km every other day doesn't seems to bother me, pushing the bike for the next 10km on the cycling shoes with cleats does.

haiya...

So, i reluctantly took my phone out and called home, asking wifey to come fetch me up. Ironically (again), i told Roland, LL2's husband, that i will not join him at Kiara because my MTB brake pads has worned out that he might see me tumbling down from the top of Jane's Addicition and Carnival route if i were to ride Kiara with him. I suggested for him to follow me do the road biking and now, 10.71km later, i had 2 punture and a tire which is as good as my MTB brake pad...

I need a part time job soon...

Told wifey where to pick me up on the phone. I stood by the road side, near INTAN's entrance, took both wheels off the bike and placed them on the road side...

Did i thought about quiting the sports?

Almost.

scrap metal for sale

But i told myself i won't feel down or unhappy about these kind of things anymore.

"Nevermind la Ee-Van, you can always run the 16km tomorrow before church", i told myself.

"Uncle Ong has cheap replacement la, don't need to worry about the cost as much", i told myself again.

My legs won't quit, not now

Wifey came soon after, asked me what happened and i just shrugged it off. On the bright side, at least when i was gunning down that road at 40km/h when the tyre burst, i did not crash and got rolled over by any vehicle and became the next day's headline, right? So i should be grateful.

On Sunday, i set my alarm at 7am, to wake up and run to Hartamas and then back, covering about 16km, before heading for Sunday Mass at 10am. The alarm rang, i couldn't get up and i decided that i should just stay at home and spend time with Wifey and Ryan. Give training a break, maybe i need that.

And so, later that night, we went to sis in law's place and since i'm already FAT, i might as well stuff myself with more food. Afterall, there is nothing food can't cure, no?

murtabak, apam balik, apam, carrot cake, popiah, satay, otak-otak, assam laksa, kuey teow goreng, yau char kueh...Bangsar pasar malam

To date, the breadmaker has churned out 6 bread, so, now, cost per bread (if we decide to stop making anymore) is : RM68.33

Tonight we will make one more. Food is therapheutic and i'm now 82kg.

Ryan Of Petaling Jaya

Lawrence Of Arabia

Went to pick up my mum in law this morning, got home and wifey wrapped a napkin on Ryan's head.

"eh, i made your son to look like Lawrence of Arabia", wifey said, pointing to Ryan, sitting in the kitchen

I can't help it but smile as i see him drooling, with the napkin wrapped like a sheikh on his head. Can't resist it furthermore and i put the sunnies on his face...

Cool or not...

At 6 months old, Ryan could sit on his own without swaying around like humpty-dumpty. He could sit for an hour on his own in his cot and fascinate himself with the toys around him.

He could turn and toss around in bed from one end to the other, wetting the sheets with his drools as he does so.

He would look at food and know it's food and hope it would end up in his mouth as well.

We are feeding him 4 servings of milk everyday. Supplementing with 2 servings of baby cereal which he don't seems to get enough.

We plan to introduce some vegetables such as carrot and potato into his diet and let him have his first taste of fruit juice soon enough (but citrus and tomato is a no no)

It is such joy to see him smile, shout, scream and play on his own.

And it is even funny to see him fall asleep on his own as he gets tired of playing...

Going...

Gone....

Went???

Check out the short clip below, of him doing the Drunken Master Kungfu as he battle with Mr. Sandman while sitting on the couch with me yesterday watching CSI...

Bad Time

Scale says i'm 81kg this morning. I stood there, naked. Wondering if the scale is inaccurate.

I did not run yesterday like i planned to. Changed, geared up and the moment i opened the door, it poured dogs and cats.

"Ee-Van, you going running in this weather???", Mum In Law asked me.

Damn!

As if yesterday i wasn't feeling down, it had to rain on me and force me to cancel the 16km run plan.

To put things simply, work is not going well. There is simply no business coming in. Added with the facts that one company owe us so much money that and never did pay. Then, we owe people money because people did not pay us what they owe us.

Vicious cycle.

Sometimes, we wonder where (and when) the next pay cheque is coming; or are we gonna get paid!

My only outlet is to exert myself physically, and to lose some weight and then to improve on my own timing in races.

That also is not working.

I'm still fat. And now, i'm Fat and unhappy. I used to be Fat, but happy. Now, it's Fat AND Unhappy.

I know i shouldn't be complaining. There are many others which are in worse position than me, wondering where and when the next meal will ever/even come.

But if i were to compare with ppl worse off, or better off than me, then what's the point of living?

I race my own race. I have my own expectations. And currently, it's just not what i expect it to me, eventhough i've lowered that factor to rock bottom.

Just as we thought it won't get any worse, i know, things will happen, heads will roll.

Murphy's Law they call it.

It's Friday today, lets just hope the weekend will be kinder to me, and i hope to be just FAT on Monday.

It's just not me, to be writing like this, lest to feel this way.

Frust

Work Sucks.

Not exactly in mood to do anything.

PayPerPost do not have any good oppurtunities.

Still swimming breaststroke.

Not lost any weight but put on 1kg.

For a moment i just felt like stopping whatever i'm doing and just...

This song reflects my mood best now.

Metallica - Sad But True

Good Average On Bike? NOT!

Went for a quick spin yesterday evening. Felt like ages since i last set my butt on the saddle.

Since time was a factor here, i decided to do a short 20km ride. Only way to make up for the 10km less which i usually clock is to ride FASTER. So, i took the usual 30KM route MINUS the climb up Bukit Damansara.

I pumped in 120psi of air onto both tyres and i noticed my front tyre are disentergrating. Maybe because i put my bike on the balcony and the sun does nasty things to the tyres. Maybe because since i bought the bike from Heckler, i did not change the front tyre as it was still in good condition, but he did cautioned me that the front tyre was replaced many many many years ago...

Being a triathelte on budget, i need to save up as much as i could as the entry fee for future races are just getting more and more expensive. A'Famosa was RM60, then Bukit Merah came in at Rm70, PD is RM90, Desaru is at least RM120...

Shazly is trying to sell his Louis Garneau, complete with full Ultegra parts and Durace STis and Wheelsets for RM5000. The bike comes complete with all Easton parts as well and Fizik saddle. I would buy it if i had the money. But sadly, i don't.

Can see...can touch...kenot own...

So, i cranked and cranked i did. Aerobar-ed 80% of the way and getting good average speed. Infact i pushed myself like i never did pushed before.

Only to be dissapointed.

Managed only a 31.6km/h average and covered 22km in 42minutes. Max speed was 61.5km/h by pedaling furiously down the tunnel.

I guess my own expectation is way too high. I thought i could churn out 22km in say, 35minutes max...but i guessed i'm too woss to acheive that. Looks like i need more time on the bike, road and water.

Then, me and wifey decided to walk to Tesco and back. That should give us a good 5km of walk. Parents was over at my place for dinner, so best not to go to gym because of timing.

Later that evening, me and wifey made 1 bread for my mum to bring home. Doing this seems to took away some frustration of my average speed away...

White bread laden with herbs and all the work la.

Forgot to put sugar in, which explain why the crust is not even light brown.
:)

Then we did one more wholemeal bread for ourselves...

This is how it should look like...with yeast in middle...

Now the price per loaf of bread produced is RM140. Got to continue making it to lessen the cost...no?

This time turned out nicely...

And no, we did not take Azman's advice and put in Tongkat Ali....hahahahahahaha!

This Got Me Excited...

My last posting might had caused some of you to have some naughty thoughts about what wifey had to offer me, that i decided to ditch the 30km bike ride in lieu for.

You are right, not everyday would someone like me decide NOT to do any physical activities at a drop of the pin for anything, weather permitting of course.

"want to do or not?", wifey asked me.

Bugger, no need ask also MUST DO la.

"Can also", i said, trying to hide my excitement.

"Don't want nevermind one wor", she poked, sheepishly.

So, i took it out....

She was amazed by the size....

"so compact", she says...

"good thing comes in small sizes, darling", i said.

"take it out and show me", she hurried me.

So i took it out...and for the first time, i'm gonna show all of you this...and i promise, this won't be the last you all will see this...

Tadaaaaa!!!

A BREAD MAKER!!!!!

What were all of you thinking of?

Áfter Siew Peng aka LL2 made us a bread in PD, me and wifey decided to get one as well. We gotten a newer model from Kenwood (BM250) for a bargain. OKla, i admit, i did calculate for wifey that the breadmaker cost will allow us to buy 210 loaves of Gardenia white bread, which will most probably last us about 630 days (3 days for a loaf, on average). But that is besides the point.

Anyway, we made our first bread yesterday from scratch. Decided to make a 750gram loaf.

Weighed in 450Grams of high protien flour, mixing it with 240ml of skim milk (or low fat), then add in butter, thyme, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds, herbs, raisins, yoguhrt, salt and finally yeast.

Using the bread maker was really easy. here is a rough step by step guide.

1. Choose MENU. There is a total of 12 inbuild menu for this breadmaker. From basic white bread to making dough for pasta. We set it to white bread. The timer says it will take 3hours 8 mins to make the moment we press start.

2. Choose SIZE. There is 3 sizes to choose from, Small(500gram), Medium(750gram) and Large(1kg). We are going for MEDIUM.

3. Choose COLOUR. We are making PINK bread. OK, i'm just joking. The colour here correspond to the crumbs/skin colour. There is 3 choices, Light, Medium and Dark. Some people love the bread skin to be darker, we like ours lighter (same reason why i would sometime go through loaves of bread on the shelves to find the lightest coloured one, even though i know the whole baking process is controlled in factory..LOL)

4. Choose DELAY TIMER. You can start making it straight, Bread will be ready in 3hours 8minutes. Apaprently the 8minutes is the build in timer just incase someone switched off the power supply while the bread is in the process of making...so, you got 8minutes before the machine restart and you have to wonder if the dough taste as good as the end product. :) But in this case, we decided that we wanted the bread to be ready by 7am. The time when i set the machine was at 12am. So, i set the delay timer to 7hours...meaning the bread will be ready by then (so, in actualy fact, 7-3 is 4hours delay....)

Making the bread is really easy. As long as you can differentiate between sugar and salt, i guess you are more than ready to bake a bread for yourself to eat with this BreadMaker.

The possibilities are endless, LL2 has experimented with putting cheese, bacon, turkey ham and anything edible into her bread and it turned out fine. Being free from preservatives, home baked bread must be consumed within 3 days. Hardly a problem as we do eat a loaf every 3 days.

All ingredient in their places

I was told that the most important ingredient, the yeast must be placed in a dry place inside the mix, or else ugly things will happen, like they will turn into bad gremlins after midnight.

We did not want to take a chance with it, so, i digged a hole at the corner of the mix, where it's dry and the milk below doesn't seep through, and placed the yeast there.

Then, i placed the whole thingy into the breadmaker, close the lid and kneel down and prayed so it would turn out fine the next day.

With nothing else to do but to wait for the bread to be ready the next morning, me and wifey went to bed. Excited.

The next morning (ie this morning), i woke up, anticipating to see the bread. But i only woke up at 8.30am, usually i would be woken up by 8am as Ryan needs his milk. Raining mah, so Ryan also sleep through the rain. :)

Wifey went to check on the bread and say that it looked great!

Waaa....

OK, it looked great when it was fully fluffed. What happened was we used half teaspoon more of yeast than we should. We followed the recipe to the T but i guess we forgot we got ourselves the easy use yeast...which we should only use ONE teaspoon. This has caused the bread to RAISE up HIGH...then losing steam...it feel back down...LOL.

But still, it's the first bread ever made in our Home!

I guess everything is trial and error, there is only room for improvement.

Here is how it looked like

Soft and Moist...

I had 3 slices of it this morning, by the time we left the house to work, there is only half a loaf left.

And with that, whatever weigh i lost after the run and gym work yesterday, i believe, has since been packed back into my body. Now i need to lose 6kg.

Damn.

PS - Desparil, PG13 right?
Ishsal - were you expecting MORE?

Highly Charged!!!

Not entirely sure why i was full of energy yesterday, despite not having lunch (yes la, save money and to lose weight) i ran from home to gym in 41 minutes (against traffic), which was a good 3 minutes improvement over the previous attempt and a good 10 minutes from the first attempt.

Ran right into Gym and headed straight to the threadmill and ran anohter 5km in 28minutes. So, i covered a total of 12km yesterday in 1hour 9mins.

Soon after that, i went straight to the weight section and did bench press, shoulder press, military press, bicep curls, tricep push ups and lateral raise.

Then i went to the Hammer Strength machine and did a total back workout...

And i still had the energy.

So, i went on to do crunches, to 2 songs' duration.

No pain in leg, no pain in upper body. Just very very pleasant feeling.

I almost wanted to take the bike out for a 30km ride but wife reminded me that we got something to do later that night....

And that got me excited all over!!!!

Stay tuned for that "something exciting"!!!

8KM Run Against Traffic

Did another 8km run on the highway. Same route as the previous one here.

Since Aini says that i should actually run on the opposite side of the road, ie against the traffic, i decided to give that a try.

I tell you. It's scary.

OK, doesn't help with me running at 6.15pm when everyone is coming back from work.

But still, it was scary. Scary because you see cars coming towards you. I make mental note and prepared myself to jump out of the traffic way should one joker decided to swerve his/her car towards me while driving and SMS-ing.

I lost count how many people i saw talking on the phone while driving, including 3 motorcyclists. Out of 10 cars, at least 5 were doing something else other than driving. 2 has kid on their lap while driving. Are these people insane?

OK, maybe that is what they think of me as well, to be running against the traffic at 6.30pm.

Yes, i'm insane. I'm motivated because i want to lose 5kg off my body and get rid of my Man Boobs.

Anyway, the run was good. It took me 44:44 to complete the run door to door. Maybe it's slightly shorter by 500meters when i ran against the traffic, it's still good improvement from the previous 51minutes.

I went in the gym and then ran anohter 15minutes, which i managed to cover 2.95km with at average speed of 12km/h. So, i did plus minus 10km/11km yesterday in time of about 1hour.

As of today, i'm still a fat 80kg.

Damn.

Noodle Maker

Everyone in Malaysia should be familiar with this sort of noodle maker. The usual one where the Pan Mee seller has, and the same one your mum might have in the kitchen.

Noodle Maker

When i posted a foodie entry about the Sate Celup with the picture of the home made noodle, hokkien style (Lor Mee, minus the dark sauce) which looks like this:

Yummy

i did promise that i will post the mean machine that was used to produce the noodle above and it looked like this:

Small kuci...

And may i now, present to you, the machine that my granma has...which is 50% bigger than the one u see above...

Green with Envy or not?

When i was growing up and whenever granma needs a hand in turning those big handle to produce kilos after kilos of noodles for fesitivities, i would be roped in. There is a reason why my parents fed me so well. It is so i could help turn those wheels.

I've always have this fear that my finger will get stuck in between those 4 inch diameter metal roller. Granma would knead the dough, then pass it through the rollers.

Then she would knead it further and pass it through again. process is repeated a few times and then the roller would be brought closer together and the dough squeezed through again. it usually takes about 45 minutes to complete, sometimes an hour, depending if Granma wants to make the thicker noodle or the thinner noodle.

I bet with my current strength and build, i could perhaps finish making the noodle for her in record time!

enough to crush any fingers...

I'm Fat

And that is with a capital F.

Wifey commented that my tits are sagging so low and my teats are so sharp it looked like some teenage girls' breast.

Ouch.

This morning, i walked passed the mirror in the dining are and did notice my chest (or breast, rahter), jiggle as i walked.

Yucks.

I've enough of Man Boobs all my life. Time to get rid of it.

No matter how much cardio i do, it's not coming off.

I ran 10km in the gym last thursday, that is after running 8km to the gym the day before.

So, today, i decided to run to the Gym again. And lets hope it's not raining now.

Say No to Man Boobs.

I have to lose a freaking 5kg. I have to.

Ryan : Sitting and Eating

Ryan is now almost 6 months, 4 days shy of being officially 6 months old to be exact.

He has been able to sit by himself since 1 week ago. Taking me and wifey by surprise when he actually did not "humpty-dumpty" himself.

Development wise, he is on par with what doctors predicted him to be, able to grasp object with one hand and pass it over to the other hand, in short, his mechanical skills has vastly improved. He could also reach out and grab things now.

On Saturday, me and wifey decided to see if he would take any solid food. We decided to introduce some baby cereal to him. Doctor's advice was to give him only 3 teaspoon maximum and work our way towards one small serving bowl.

We sat him in his Bumbo seat and it was as if he knew what was coming.

The baby cereal smelt like how our cereal would smell like, only finer and more gooey.

No coaching needed

Doctor told us not to give up if he rejects the food; which well, Ryan did not. It is as if he knows that the stuff we had at the tip of the spoon is edible. He did not even react funnily. All he did was to close his mouth over the spoon and swallowed!

Yummy!!!

He gobbled up the whole 3 teaspoon without even complaining.

And it was clearly not enough.

So we tried scooping up all we could from the bowl for one last one...

We then made the usual 7 oz of milk and we laid him down on his bed and he held the bottle on his own and finished it within 5 minutes.

Barney says Hi!!!

And he then dozed off in my arm....

picture of peace...and serenity...
