Nautica Tide Temp Compass Launched in Malaysia


Thanks to collaboration with Nautica Malaysia and their authorized distributor company, I've received a new-yet-to-be launched unit tagged with model number NAI210000G or better known as the Nautica NSR103TTC. 

It will be retailing at RM949 in Malaysia. There will only be 9 units in Malaysia and they can be viewed at the retails outlets in the end of this review below. This is limited edition for Malaysia market and is within the 2015 Spring collection. Available only in Black-Yellow combination. 

First Look 
Solid. That was my first thought when I held the Nautica NSR103TTC for the first time. The unit assigned to me has yellow straps (yay!) and comes with contrasting black-yellow face. The watch is large - at least 45mm diameter (I later found out it is 46mm diameter and 14mm thick) and the strap is a nice 22mm width. 

3-press button and one screwed in crown were the visible feature apart from the very intriguing watch face with 4-hands that adds to the complication (a term used to describe a watch beyond the simple display of hours and minutes. In short, it provides the user a more complex functionality, which adds to the watch's allure)

At first sight, it does not look like other chronograph watches - and the function to be able to check temperature, tide and a compass is a misnomer as I usually relate these features to a digital watch instead. It was strange to see this on an analog watch. Strange, but a welcomed sight and will be noticed due to the bold yellow color (no complains on Yellow here for the extrovert me)

The watch face size sits nicely on my wrist and at the size that I like. For some of you that may like the large casing diameter watch, 46mm is at the same size as the Seiko Monster Dive Watch (about same price) or the more expensive Bell&Ross or the Tag Heuer Aquaracer.

This comparison will give you a good idea how big the watch is if you own any of them. For me, it is about the same size as my 920XT (at 48mm). The size doesn't bother me as I am used to wearing large-face watch - maybe due to failing eye-sight.

Daily Use
I was asked by a few person if I am wearing a new watch - being a predictable person that I am, it is easy to see if I am doing something differently. Naturally the timepiece became a conversation starter. A hotelier commented that I am "loyal" to my company due to the color of the watch. Can't blame her for trying. Another asked if I ever get confused with that many dials on the watch face and asked if it does more than just "tell time".

The strap is flexible and secure the TTC neatly on my wrist and sufficient holes to cater for all (men's standard) wrist size, even with a wetsuit on should you bring it for snorkeling or diving (it has 100m water resistant function). Very important that the screw-in crown are screwed in to ensure complete seal, otherwise water will enter and it will be the end of life for the watch.

Conversation aside, I found myself showing off the features that tracks the Temperature, Tide and showing the Compass needle moves as I turn my body. The outer bezel works too, which meant the graduation of the degree could be used for simple map reading and navigation. Swanky!

Tide - Temperature - Compass
The Nautica TTC has 3-dedicated press buttons to activate each of the functions. Pressing the lower left button activates the Compass. Red button on upper right does the Temperature and the lower right completes the Tide tracker. Calibration is possible for both the Compass and Tide function which is included in the manual. I've calibrated both the Compass and Tide function and can confidently share it is "almost" accurate as long as I use it correctly.

The Temperature accuracy is effected by the skin-watch contact and you can get better accuracy if you leave it on a surface to measure it after it reaches equilibrium. Not an issue as the digital temperature watches recommend the same - or has higher sophistication to account for the skin surface temperature.
As comparison, I wore the watch in a room set to 18degree C and it reads 25deg C. After removing it and leaving it on the table overnight, it clocked in at 22deg C. Obviously the air-condition may not had been able to go as low as 18deg C. In the name of testing, and as the unit are able to go as low as -5deg F (that is -20.5deg C for us Metric people), I will leave the watch in the freezer one of these day and report back here.
Temperature
The Tide Tracker is unique. The watch face is divided into two-halves where the Tide is tracked. On the left side tells you it's a declining tide and on the right is increasing tide. So, if the Red-dial moves around the left side of the watch, it indicates declining tide. The Red-dial will moves with time from the "high to half to low" to gives you an idea where the tide is; useful if you need to know (like me before the race so I know the sea condition). It doesn't tells the "depth" though. Detailed instruction to calibrate available in manual and I've mine came correctly set (against the tide chart from Port Klang).

The compass function is a no brainer - but just do not place electronic nearby/next to it when in use. I experimented with my phone next to it and the needle were biased from the expected north. Accuracy wise, not too bad as it co-relate with my phone compass and a map reading compass I have.

Is It Worth Your Money
If you are in the market to get a watch that tells you more than just time, this is a good choice without going "digital". It live up to the Sports theme it made up to be as it allow both formal and informal usage as a watch that will suit many occasions - I wore this to my team's meeting for a change. Again, this retail for RM949.00 and in my opinion, worth the money for the features and persona.

The Nautica TTC (NSR103) comes with mineral glass (standard) and with Japan movement. It runs on battery (not mechanical) and the strap is synthetic rubber. Rated at 12ounces or 340grams (same as one side of my Skechers GoRun!) and 100m Water Resistant. With ability to do Temperature measurement, tracking Tide and showing you where North is. Add that to the everyday wearable factor be it in office or out in the trail, I would say it has good value for money.

GPS Watches Training Softwares Review

Data without any meaning is just gibberish. We can obtain many sports tracking devices application (app) and software to sync your workout - either for personal glorification or just as a record of your fitness level. And today, I shall take the chance to show what comes with the Garmin 910xt (910xt)  and the Timex Global Trainer (TGT). To start with, both the software are available online and both has the option to download (and install) a desktop software that will record/show your workout.
Desktop Software
1. Garmin Training Centre (TC) - Free of Charge
Garmin Training Centre is the core of any products under Garmin that will allow for easy uploading/downloading of maps and even Point of Interests (POIs) onto any Garmin GPS products. It works wonderfully being an offline standalone software and provide adequate basic information of your workout. I have this installed in my PC. Files are auto saved as they are sync-ed between the device and the PC.

- Setting Course (and POIs)
- Customisation of Workout (including stock and your own)
- Syncing of PC and Garmin products (either by cable USB or wireless by ANT+ dongle)

If you want more graphical map (i.e. like the one you see above, you will need to head over to MalSingMaps and download a version of their MSM map. Else, you will only have a BaseMap that comes with the TC.
2. Timex Trainer - Free Of Charge
Timex Trainer is a basic no frill desktop software that provide adequate analysis of your workout. Unlike the TC above, it does not tell you the route you take and only limited with just data. So, the whole purpose of your GPS watch is lost, as you can't map where you run.

- Adjusting preferences of your device and syncing via USB.
Yeap, it is that basic. The software were developed for more basic devices by Timex.

3. Device Agent by Training Peaks (Free of Charge)
This is a third party software develop by Training Peaks and works (claimed) with 60 different devices with the TGT being one of them. It covers extensively many other brands but since I am specifically reviewing for the TGT. Sadly, this software does nothing but sync the device and PC apart from allowing device administration such as changing of settings etc.

Reason for this is that they want to encourage you to use their online program that will offer a lot more. Sadly, you will need Internet connection to access the online program, which I will review below.

Online Software
1. Training Peaks (Free for Basic function. Pay for Premium)
Following up from the write up above on Device Agent that sync the workout from Device to PC and from PC to the software online, it is obvious that the software developer wants you to interact with their online software. In a very cluttered web page, one would need to know where to go to start using it. Alternatively, the Device Agent has a "LOGIN" button on the lower left side where you can click and it will automatically open up the browser and points you to the page.

Upon login in, you will see a Calendar like setup and many other charts/info/windows around it. One word. Cluttered. It took me a while to learn how to navigate around it and realise that there are more buttons to be pressed just to view what i wanted.

To be fair, Training Peak is a very wholesome software that even tracks your calorie intake and more. It is a one-stop software; if you get around the learning curve to learn it all. It will be a good analytical software for coaches or team managers to monitor and plan their team's workout and monitor their progress. On a more basic level, it is too much info (TMI) and can be overwhelming as some of the items will need effort and more understanding to make sense. To access the sync-ed workout from Device Agent, one need to locate the workout and double click on it.

As expected, the whole GPS functions came alive in this software. Again, the whole setup is very cluttered with informations being shown everywhere. Take note of the window on the left hand side where it provides a "Summary" but looked more cluttered that the two graph and map. Plus point, is that they allow for different layout. So, this is how it look, horizontally split.

The graphs is a composite of distance, elevation and pace plotted against time. I did not wear the heart rate monitor (HRM) and thus, one missing line denoting the HR is not shown. Looking at the elevation profile, it seems that i have ran over a big elevation. As the data are collected by the TGT, it is technically "not corrected". This simply meant that the elevation plotted is approximate relative to the watch. A more accurate reading will be, or should be plotted against the Map.
Opps! Sorry! Pay for it to use it!
As mentioned, the Training Peaks is a basic program that is free. For detailed and more functions, you will have to upgrade or pay for it. I am not sure how much it will cost, but i have no intention to purchase it as the existing data analysis is already too much to process at a few sittings even. Good thing are the data can be selectively chosen and shown - with a few being "premium" features such as POWER graphs used by cyclists nowadays as a determination of their workout quality. Check the Device Compatibility Page to see how you can use it to track your workout. 
For your info, my 910xt works with Training Peaks and Device Agent as well. The integration, however, requires me to export my training file as *.tcx (* being file name, and from Garmin Training Centre) and import it into the Training Peaks's website. It has to be done manually i.e. choosing the date where the workout should be placed. Remember to change the timezone in the setting. I ran the 10km Home-TTDI-Home on Saturday, June 9 and upon uploading, it went to Friday, June 8.

The integration went well with the 910xt, but on user friendliness basis, I will stick to the Garmin Connect (for online monitoring) per reviewed below.
2. Garmin Connect - Free
A cleaner and more simple to use/understand software that allows for no-frill upload of workout and syncing. Garmin Connect shows what you need to know without being TMI. The welcome screen shows a distance marker that claims to be recording in real time, the amount of distance being synced by user globally.
OK. Much Better.
Navigating around the page is simple as there is the LOGIN in option on the upper right. If you are already logged in, you will find an "UPLOAD" button where you can immediate sync your device and PC to upload it into the website. The Dashboard will show the latest workout and the summary. Of course, the minor details such as the "name" of your workout is user input (with options for FULL edit of QUICK edit)

At one glance, the layout are less cluttered even though it provides more information that Training Peaks. All charts are collapsible and can be hidden. Clicking on the small triangle button under the "Charts" will show you more items.

Unlike the Training Peaks where the Elevation correction needed a premium account, Garmin Connect allows you to do it for free. Take note of the elevation profile before and after correction below.

All GPS elevation data (recorded real time on watch) fluctuates based on the barometric pressure. Should you started the run bright and sunny showing say 100m elevation (above sea level), and towards the end the sky turned grey and threatened to open up (i.e. rain), the final elevation might be less than 100m due to the drop in ambient pressure. What the software does is to co-relate the GPS coordinates against the known billions of GPS points and correct it based on what was on the ground. This is a good to have features as it shows a more accurate and representative data field on elevation - as you know, we often pride ourselves being able to sprint up that hill and we want to know HOW HIGH it went and how fast.
The Garmin Connect software, unfortunately only works with Garmin products.
Final Words
I have not done a review so extensive as this GPS watches series and armed with better knowledge of what both the units can and can not do, a more informed and realistic judgement of my own personal ability and workout can be obtained. No doubt that the choice is biased towards Garmin 910xt, and rightly so after paying that much for it. In comparing it against the Timex Global Trainer that cost 1/2 the price and realising that it too, works as well, my only wish is that future owner of either watches will be able to make a more informed purchased and not be hog washed with marketing brochures. Truly, the final integration of both the watches boils down to what and how the data collected will be used - and that is where the sensitivities are weighted and considered. So, if you are the more simplistic straight to the point person, 910xt (or any Garmin GPS) will work perfectly. If you are the data geek (that is potentially more hardcore than me to be able to write in more details than just these), Timex and Training Peaks might be for you. Whatever the decision is, you are now able to speak in a product language that might even make the seller think twice about promising you something that the watches can't do. ;-)

Garmin 910xt vs Timex Global Trainer Shakedown

Much has been said and reviewed about the two GPS watches currently in my possession. It covered the review of the Garmin 910xt (910xt) and the Timex Global Trainer (TGT). Then the GPS lock on of 910xt and the  GPS lock on TGT separately, which include an update on the TGT's firmware. I even include a bonus review of the 910xt QR kit which received mixed review.
Would be silly to wear both on the same wrist, right?
Putting all of the together in this post would be the real life testing/recording of one run recorded simultaneously using both the watch - by the same person i.e. me. Reason for this is really to see how both perform next to each other. So, the TGT went on my left wrist while the 910xt on my right - all in the name of this review.
Head to head GPS Lock On:
Technically speaking, both are watches with same capabilities with the biggest difference being the GPS chipset with 910xt being more advanced with the SiRFIV. Other than that, everything else much depends on the watches' firmware to exploit their individual chips' capabilities. That has been proven in the TGT firmware update that reduced what seems like eternity for signal lock to 1minute on average. A more detailed look at both the watch showed that the 910xt locked on to one extra satellite (#16), which on the 910xt, showed pretty good signal (in dark bar).

On the same note, the TGT on firmware released May30th showed good signal lock though 910xt was still faster (almost immediate from not using after 24hours on the 910xt vs about 20seconds from not using after 1hour - wifey used the TGT earlier).
Verdict: Both units requires 3 satellites lock for accuracy purposes. Additionally satellites locking will be good as it will allow for "alternative" or more accurate location recording. The SiRFIV chipset is still superior with faster signal searching and locking.
Head to head pace and distance accuracy:
Both watches started recording pace and distance the moment I started the workout. I noticed a lag with the TGT where it went from 30:00 pace to 10:00 to 6:00 within the first 50meters while the 910xt showed 7:00 and then 6:00 pace the moment i started moving.  After about 50meters, both the watch showed almost the same pace reading with the 910xt being more consistent. The TGT seems to be erratic with pace feedback as you do not get immediate or near immediate speed update - very obvious when you were making a dash for the run and you can see the TGT lagging behind while the 910xt picks the speed change smoothly. The lag again showed when you stop while running and the pace, again, lags. I found myself either moving at 30:00 pace when stationery or 5:00 when i slowed down to a stop.

As seen from the photo above, the total distance covered was 10.17km and 10:04km on 910xt and TGT respectively. While i did stop the TGT first (as it is a natural thing to press with right hand onto the left wrist), the timing between the two (about 5seconds) will not allow me to cover 110m - not even Usain Bolt. The calculation of the pace too, doesn't differ much with about 4seconds/km.
Verdict: Noticeable lag with the TGT. Unless you are looking at the watch like a HUD (Head Up Display) and it irritates the hell out of you for the slower feedback, i say it will not effect you much. One of them are over measuring and the other under. 
Overall
While GPS accuracy (and thus, speed and distances accuracy too) greatly dependent on the weather and also obstruction (such as building and even under heavy canopy (i.e. dense jungle), they both tells the approximate distance pretty well. With the chipset and proprietary firmware setting the two apart, i would say that you obtain whichever GPS watch within your budget. My personal preferences is still with the 910xt simply because it locks on faster, allow for more data field (to be shown/read) and the watch is sleeker without it looking too bulky. The price of TGT (outside of Malaysia and Singapore), is too attractive and often, it will be the deciding factor for a purchase if a specific budget only allow for a more affordable purchase.

Timex GPS Global Trainer Signal Review

If you have been following the blog, you will know that i did a short review on the Timex Global Trainer (TGT) concentrating on the basic feature and how one could (almost) immediately update and use the TGT and maximises the unit. Much like what i did for the Garmin 910XT GPS signal, this entry serve to provide a visual clue on the SiRFIII chip on the TGT. Read about some jargon and how the well the Garmin 910XT locks to the satellites here. Be reminded that it takes only about 1minute max for the 910XT to lock on from COLD start.
It takes a good 2 minutes for the TGT to lock on. The differences in time is obvious when compared (or spoilt) by the Garmin 910XT. That is still understandable due to the SiRFIII chip that is in TGT compared to the SiRFIV in 910XT.
If you did watch the video above until it ends, you will noticed i went "blank" for a while when the time did not co-relate with what was expected. I soon found out that the watch has no auto-update on the time zone and that needs to be done manually. I actually mentioned this in the review of TGT yesterday. Anyhow, it is easy to do once you figured out the problem. Yeap, it is user problem.

With that done. The next thing is to check how fast the TGT will find the signal HOT-start. I did a run on the day i received the TGT and i had to stand almost 2minutes, maybe more for the satellite to lock on. With the Garmin 910XT, it was minimal lag on the signal locking. However, once i got it going, the TGT tells enough data to keep me distracted from the chore of running. :) Data transfer via the USB cable and linking it to the TrainingPeaks.com website was simple, though unlike GarminConnect, you have to "upload" the file that has been sync-ed with your PC.

Once the workout has been uploaded (manually), you can then see the data and start tracking your workout proper.
Hmm...
So, there you have it. With two different GPS watches compared that functions as a multisport watch with mapping and data capabilities, you will now have more information to make your next (informed) purchases. I own both the watches and both will be used interchangeably for me to better understand how both will work and their other "hidden" functions. So, stay tune to this blog for further update.

Firmware vF-XGH-2B-1205211.GHX). So i am downloading it NOW to try it. Device Agent need to be upgraded as well. Thanks Anon.

Timex GPS Global Trainer Review and Setup

Thanks to a friend whom his sister came back from US of A, an additional order of yet another GPS watch were made and delivered safely. As most of you would know, i have my Garmin Forerunner 910xt since earlier this month and have been very happy with it. With almost immediate or insignificant lag in signal sourcing, it will be interesting to see how another GPS watch that is being sold at almost 34% more expensive in Malaysia hold up to the price reputation. Malaysian always have the skewed perception that "if it is more expensive, it is better". 
FYI, the Timex Ironman Global Trainer (hereof be known as just TGT) is being sold in Malaysia by Timex Malaysia for the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of RM1999. You can get it off for RM1499 if you were lucky.

I could not find any price reference to the watch above as it seems that the Timex.com.my website is not loading/responding. Not too sure if they are still maintaining it. Anyhow, at RRP of RM1999, it is 34% more expensive than the Garmin 910XT (at RRP RM1490). Online retail price via eBay, similar to the one i bought (but did not reach me - i offered to refund the seller, but he do not want to take it) works out to be RM750maximum even with courier postage (with live tracking - best suggested method to get anything on eBay). So how much did this unit cost me? Because of the free shipment (hand delivered), it was less than RM1000. So, why is Timex Malaysia selling them at cutthroat pricing? Their after sales services is bad and expensive (many grouses, my own personal experiences included when i tried to change a strap on my Timex Ironman FLIX). So unless someone can tell me that they have consistent after sales services from Timex - things has not changed much.
Back to the TGT review. Again, i am not attempting to do a DC Rainmaker's review of the TGT that is not only comprehensive, but in-depth to the extend one might get lost in the review if one do not sieve the information shared. My point here is to provide an easy and direct approach so that many others that are like me, would appreciate the more basic setting up of the watch to gauge "if we really need this". As usual, unless noted, all items reviewed in this blog belongs to me and the free plug serves as an education for others not to repeat the same mistake (if the product is lemon) and to provide as frank of a discussion on the item. With that, the review starts here.
Unboxing
The TGT comes in a nicely packed box which looked as impressive as the Garmin 910XT. There is sufficient marketing materials on the box itself to let you know what the watch is for.
The Ironman logo adds on to the price as royalty payment to World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
Removing the pack, the items were all stored in three layers of plastic holder which will reveal all the items below.

Size Comparison to Garmin 910XT
One thing you will notice if you remove the TGT from the box is how HUGE the unit is. This is definitely a watch for the "exhibitionist" racer ;-) Suit my profiling.

How does i stack up against the 910XT? Apparently, this TGT makes the 910XT looked "normal". Be reminded my wrist is pretty big and the TGT was worn higher up my arm - and it still look big.

THe TGT got to be inching towards 20mm thickness as the 910XT with QR kit looked just slightly higher than the TGT from side profile.
Loading up the juices
For some of us that know about the shipping condition of the TGT, we would know that the watch comes with almost empty battery level. So, you can't take this out and use it immediately. You will need to charge it. The TGT comes with the USB charging cable which has four contacts (as opposed to two contacts on the 910XT) and a fool proof clip (with markers) that will securely clip the TGT for charging and data transfer.
The Red Dot should line with the other Red Dot, then you clip it whole thing on.

Firmware Update. Important!
Now, while charging, there is an important step to perform, which is to update the TGT firmware. The new firmware will improve the signal searching and locking of the satellite better. The TGT was known to have issues with this. So, do yourself a favour by going to this website here (Training Peak.com) or just click here for the link to the software called Device Agent and also the latest firmware for the TGT here and follow the instruction here. Essentially, you will go from Firmware 2.94 to Firmware 3.14 if done correctly.

The process of re-flashing takes less than 2 minutes and unless you already own the TGT prior to this, there is absolutely no need to back up the setting (such as sex, age, height etc etc) as it is essentially a "clean install". If you are upgrading, there is adequate instructions and guideline for this  upgrading in the Training Peaks website.

Once done, it will reset the watch by itself
And by going to Configure ->GPS->Version, you will be presented with the new firmware version if done successfully.

Setting Up TGT To Your Preferences
Assuming that you managed to do the above, the Device Agent has already been successfully installed in your PC (and you had it re-started). The Device Agent is your One-Stop centre for the TGT from now onwards. Opening an account with Training Peaks is free and it is similar with how Garmin Connect works. While Garmin Connect is fully web-based, Device Agent resides in your PC and will upload datas once you are ready. I am still on the learning curve with both Device Agent and also Training Peak's interface, and i foresee myself getting familiarized with it within the next one week and will be able to answer most of your queries, if any.
One of the magic of Device Agent - configuring all the watches nitty-gritty at one place. Each option shown on this screen is replication of what is in the TGT.
Now, the next exciting thing will be to switch the unit ON. It is the middle button on your left side. Again, foolproof unless you can't read. Upon switching it ON, the TGT will go into searching mode for GPS signal. If you are in a building, do not waste your time. You will NOT get a signal.
This interface only if you updated the firmware to 3.14, else, the older firmware shows nothing except blinking satellite icon on the bottom right.
Next, as we are in Malaysia and are used to the Metric system, we have to get this part correct or struggle with the Miles, Feet and Inch measurement (English). It is easy to do by just pressing the MODE button to locate CONFIGURE screen and then scroll down to UNIT and do the necessary.
Press ENTER (middle button on right side) or just wait for 2-seconds for it to go into the option page.
Repeat the same for WATCH INFO and set the timezone to Singapore (GMT+8.00) as the default unit comes with US Eastern time. This is to ensure the GPS to show the correct LOCAL time (the mistake i made - wait up for the GPS signal posting review soon).
From the CONFIGURE menu, you can also update your USER INFO which includes the vitals. Alternative to all these is actually to do it via the Device Agent as noted above.
What's Next
With every push of the MODE button, the watch menu will change or cycle through a few options. We have covered CONFIGURE option, the other more important one to get the TGT setup and ready for first usage is to go to the PERFORMANCE option. In this option, you will be able use it for either SWIM, BIKE or RUN as THREE INDIVIDUALLY RECORDED DATA.

Now, let's take the RUN screen as the screen we want to see. Standard view is split to 4-window which will show the HR, Pace, Distance and Lap time.
Similar to Garmin 910XT
The same is seen on the BIKE screen where SPEED, CADENCE (using an ANT+ device), DISTANCE and HR can be viewed.
Nice.
A bit of further checking revealed that each of the screen is customizable - similar to Garmin 910XT. You can dictates to show between one and four split screen to monitor the vital data. For example shown here, the customization of the RUN data.

Extensive options for view change
If that is not enough, it allows two slots for customized view. You can also change both the name of the Custom 1 and 2.
Custom 1 to be...SUPERMAN WORKOUT?
The biggest differences to the 910XT is that the 910XT allows up to 4 screens with 4 split data views just for ONE SPORTS. The TGT allows only ONE SCREEN with 4 split datas - unless you convert the other two CUSTOM to your favorite view. To be frank, even with 4 data lines, there is already sufficient data to process. Perhaps the only reason for this is when you want to use the watch sans the HR monitor and you do not want to leave that view blank (0BPM).
As the TGT is an Ironman branded watch, expect the battery life (per charge on continuous usage) with GPS on and tracking of the sports to be ON to last at least 17hours (the Ironman qualifying time). Also, because it is a specific watch made for triathlon, you will get an option for MULTISPORT.
Now you feel like Superman
Just like the 910XT, it will track the Swim, Bike and Run portion as ONE continuous activity with option to track both T1 and T2 as well.
Moving On
I tried the TGT on one occasion after i got it and setting it up for wifey. This watch is meant for her and as a small motivation for our running-escapade together. In order for me to understand it a step further is to use it so i would know what to expect and be able to troubleshoot it. My biggest complain on this TGT is the duration it takes to lock on the satellite even though it has been hot-started. On the day i wanted to use it, i had to stand for about 3 minutes, perhaps 4 and wait for the watch to lock on to the signal. Compared to the 910XT, it was almost immediate (for the 910XT).

1. The price online or from US of A is super attractive. Can't beat USD150 for a HRM.
2. Complete package includes the bike mount. Further saving on initial investment
3. Comes with HR Strap. Option in US include without the HR strap for about USD10 to USD15 less.
4. BIG display - which also can be a con for those with small wrist circumference
5. Free basic software for training planning.
6. 50m water resistance! Wow!
Cons
1. Slow satellite lock - whether it is hot-start or cold-start.
2. Big display - big even for my big wrist
3. Complicated software for data downloading/uploading. Steep learning curve.
